Theory lessons: how often, how long, and when you join

Evenings and Saturday mornings, 90 minutes a session, running in a continuous loop. You can start on any evening.

The short answer

Our theory lessons run on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and on Saturday mornings. A session lasts 90 minutes, so a double period. The topics run in a continuous loop, you join on any date and miss nothing — at two sessions a week you are through in a little over seven weeks.

The most common misconception about theory lessons is that they are a course with a start and an end that you wait for. They run continuously. Enrol today and you can be sitting in a lesson the day after tomorrow.

How a session runs

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 18:30 to 20:00, Saturdays at 9:30 and at 11:00. Each session covers one topic in a single block — hence 90 minutes rather than 45. Your attendance is recorded, and before you may sit the theory test every prescribed topic has to be on that record.

How often to come

  • Twice a week: the usual rhythm, a little over seven weeks to the last topic
  • Once a week: it works, but takes roughly twice as long — and the driving lessons wait with it
  • Three times a week, or with a Saturday: faster, as long as the material is learned and not only heard
  • Irregularly: the version still sitting on topic six in month four
The topic a lot of people come to twice

Priority. It is the evening with the most questions, and the only one people repeat voluntarily — usually after coming unstuck at a real junction in a driving lesson. We now suggest it ourselves: hear it once, drive it once, hear it again. In that order it sticks.

Repeating a topic costs nothing extra

The registration fee covers the entire theory course, however often you come. Hearing a topic three times does not mean paying for it three times — and missing a session loses you nothing, you simply catch it on the next lap.

Lessons are not revision

The lessons explain the material; the test is passed on what you practise at home. What actually helps when revising and how many topics there are are posts of their own.

Which topic falls when is in the timetable; what the individual topics contain is under theory topics.

What to take away

The theory course does not wait for you, it turns — which is why your own frequency alone decides how long it takes. Two evenings a week is the difference between seven weeks and half a year.
