Theory plan

Which topic
is on when.

The plan gives you the topic for every class. Start whenever you like — the 14 topics run in a circle, so there is nothing you can miss for good.

The theory plan

Each class covers exactly one topic. This is which — week by week, with public holidays and cancellations.

Week 3814 Sep – 20 Sep

  • Mon 14 Sep

    • 18:30 – 20:00

Topic 4: The road system & level crossings

  • Wed 16 Sep

    • 18:30 – 20:00

Topic 5: Basic rule, priority & traffic control

  • Thu 17 Sep

    • 18:30 – 20:00

Topic 6: Traffic signs & road installations

  • Sat 19 Sep

    Next up
    • 9:30 – 11:00

Topic 7: Everyone else on the road

    • 11:00 – 12:30

      Topic 8: Speed

If a class is cancelled the topics move back rather than being skipped, so nothing is lost. Public holidays are already accounted for.

How the topics come round

After a particular topic?

Find it in the plan above and come that evening. Every topic comes round again every two to three weeks.

Compulsory topics 13 and 14

You have to have attended these two at least once before you can be entered for the theory test. We keep an eye out so you catch them.

Common questions

Do I have to attend all 14 topics?

Yes. Class B calls for twelve double lessons of core material and two class-specific double lessons — together the 14 topics you see in the plan.

The core material applies to every licence class, the class-specific part only to the car. Under § 4 FahrschAusbO you must have attended topics 13 and 14 before you can be entered for the theory test.

You may repeat any topic as often as you like, at no extra cost. If a class did not stick with you, simply sit in on it again the next time round.

Can I join in the middle of the cycle?

Yes — you join at the next class, whichever topic happens to be on.

The 14 topics run in a circle: after topic 14 it starts again at topic 1. Whatever came before you joined you catch on the next time round, and the plan already shows you which evening that will be.

With us that is the normal case — hardly anyone starts on topic 1 by chance. Come a few minutes early the first time and say hello at the office.

What if I miss a class?

Then nothing further happens: the topic comes round again on the next cycle, and every topic is back on every two to three weeks.

Catching up a missed double lesson costs nothing extra, and there is no deadline for it. All that matters is that all 14 topics are ticked off in the end — nobody enters you for the theory test before that.

Tell us if you are out for a longer stretch: a holiday, shift work, an exam period. Then we plan your test date around it instead of putting you down for one you cannot keep.

How reliable is the plan?

What stands in the plan takes place — public holidays and closing days are already accounted for.

The public holidays in NRW are fixed long in advance and marked as closed in the calendar. Through the school holidays, by contrast, classes run entirely as normal, which surprises a lot of people.

If an evening does drop out at short notice we enter it in the plan and the topics behind it move back automatically. None of them is skipped.

Do I have to book a place in a theory class?

No. You do not book a single theory evening, you simply come to the class.

There is no seat reservation and no fixed group you are assigned to. Every class stands on its own — which is why on a Saturday you can sit both double lessons back to back if that suits your day.

The first time, say hello at the office so we can put you on the attendance list. After that you just take a seat.
