The short answer
There is no general subsidy for class B. There are bodies that pay in individual cases: the employment agency and the Jobcenter where a licence is needed to get you into work, rehabilitation and integration bodies, some employers, the armed forces. What matters is the order — very little is approved after the fact.
Does anyone pay for this is one of the most common questions at a first conversation, and the honest answer has two halves: there is no entitlement, but there is often a possibility. What all of these bodies have in common is a link to work. What gets funded is not mobility, it is a specific job that cannot happen without a licence.
Who might come into question
- The employment agency or the Jobcenter, where a licence is required for a specific post or apprenticeship
- Rehabilitation bodies and integration offices, where a disability or an illness is involved
- Your employer or training company — as a grant, as a loan, or against a minimum period of service
- The armed forces and voluntary service schemes, depending on the role and the provider
- Accident insurers, after an accident at work
Whether anything is paid, and how much, is always decided by the body in question and never by the driving school. We cannot make the application and we cannot influence the outcome — what we can supply is the paperwork they ask for.
The order it usually founders on
Ask first, enrol second. Almost all of these bodies decide about a measure that has not yet begun; somebody who has already signed a training contract and driven ten lessons is asking for reimbursement after the event, which is a different and considerably harder application. The detour via the authority costs a few weeks. Missing out costs more.
People who walk in with an approval in hand usually get through their training without friction. The difficult cases are the others: somebody mentions in passing that the new job requires a licence — and is already halfway through. So we now ask at the first conversation whether the licence is needed for work.

If nobody pays
That is no reason to wait. The bill spreads across the whole of your training anyway, and in instalments it works whether or not a funding body is involved.

Funding is not a discount, it is a procedure with a fixed order: ask, get approval, then start. Keep to that order and you have a real chance; reverse it and you are making an application almost nobody approves.
