The short answer
You do not pay for a licence as a single sum. The registration fee falls due when you enrol, driving lessons are billed as you drive them, and the test items only shortly before the date. That already spreads the bill across months. If it is still too much at once, talk to us — instalments are possible.
The figure that puts people off is the total, and nobody ever asks for it. There is no moment in a driving licence at which the whole sum is demanded at once, and that is not goodwill but the shape of the thing: a driving lesson comes into existence at the moment it is driven.
How the bill spreads itself
- The registration fee when you enrol — once, covering administration, the theory course and the basic training
- Driving lessons when you drive them, not before
- The twelve special drives at the end of your training
- Presentation and test fees shortly before each date
- The eyesight test, the first aid course and the authority's fee go directly to those other places, right at the start
The largest block is the driving lessons, and that is exactly why it is the most flexible one: it spreads across the weeks in which you drive. Train over four months and it is spread over four months.
What instalments mean — and what they do not
An arrangement with us. No loan, no bank, no contract with a third party, no interest. What it does require is being agreed in advance: an arrangement made at the first conversation is a plan, the same question after a second reminder is a problem. Raise it before things get tight.
People regularly tell us at the first conversation that they wanted to start a year ago — and waited until they had it all together. That waiting was unnecessary, and it annoys us slightly every time. We now ask about it ourselves, because almost nobody volunteers the sentence about not being able to pay it in one go.
The amount no instalment plan changes
Instalments make the bill plannable, not smaller. Smaller comes from the number of practice lessons — the one item that is not fixed in advance, and the one that depends far more on regularity than on talent. How many lessons are realistic is a post of its own.
If something changes along the way
A job falls away, a shift is cut, and suddenly the plan does not fit. Tell us early. A deliberate pause costs nothing but time — a silent disappearance costs the run-up you then have to take again later.
